ORT India

Established in 1961, ORT India has provided vocational training to the local community from its Mumbai base, serving people from pre-school to adulthood, from a range of backgrounds.

A computer centre, established by ORT in 1987, offered courses from basic computer literacy to web design and video editing. Vocational computer-based training was also provided to the Bnei Menashe readying those wanting to make Aliyah for a new life in Israel and improving the employability of those who chose to stay.

ORT India also runs the Jewish Education Resource Centre, providing guidance and information on Judaism to all members of the community.

ORT India opened its doors in 1961. ORT’s mission is to work for the advancement of people through training and education, to provide with the skills and knowledge necessary to cope with the complexities and uncertainties of their environment

About ORT India

Founded in 1961, ORT India has maintained the standard of excellence set by it’s international parent-body, in keeping with it’s motto “Educating for Life”. Over the years, it has grown in size as well as scope, of late concentrating on training up a work force fit for 21st century.

Since its inception in 1961, ORT India has been carrying out sterling work amongst the local communities in Mumbai and elsewhere in the country.

ORT INDIA’S ROLE IN THE BNEI MENASHE COMMUNITY

The Indian Jewish community is spread throughout the country, and while the majority of Jews live near Mumbai, there are smaller communities living in more remote parts of the Indian subcontinent. One of these is the community of Bnei Menashe – Israel’s lost tribe.

The Bnei Menashe tribe is located both in Manipur and Mizoram, two states in north east India. Tribe members numbering almost 7,000, claim to be decedents of the Menashe Tribe that was exiled from the Northern Kingdom of Israel in 721 BCE

We have been empowering people and strengthening communities since 1961. Your support makes our vital work possible.
